How do the best players win their games? How do they think? How important is opening preparation, calculation and strategic thinking? These are just a few of the questions Boris Gelfand tackles in this book on decision-making in chess.

In Positional Decision Making in Chess, the main focus will be on "the squeeze", space advantage, the transformation of pawn structures and the transformation of advantages. Based on examples from his own games and those of his hero, Akiba Rubinstein, Gelfand explains how he thinks during a game.

* A rare look into the mind of one of the world’s greatest players
* Carefully explained games, accessible for a wide audience
* One of the first thorough explanations of the space advantage in chess literature

Grandmaster Boris Gelfand reached number three in the world in 1990, and has remained at the elite level ever since. He won the 2009 World Cup and has participated in six Candidates cycles, winning it in 2011. He narrowly lost the 2012 World Championship match in the play-off. At 46 he is still winning tournaments ahead of elite players, many of them half his own age.

Grandmaster Jacob Aagaard is the only writer to have won all the major chess book awards. In this series he assists the author to explain his ideas to make them accessible for players of all levels.
